Nature's Last Green is Gold...

Today's goal: one last time around the lawn on the mower for 2009. I had to stop work, though, when the sun started slanting low and lit up the winter wheat (the green field in the picture in today's banner) to such a stunning green. Then the kids came out when they saw I had the camera, and the dog started running around, so we had one of our periodic farm photo shoots.

Also, I made black bean soup, which tastes pretty good. So, that's a wrap on Saturday.

This is a classy blog, with classy post titles alluding to classy poems. So, here's my inspiration for today, by that great Vermonter, Robert Frost:

Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

No, it doesn't last so be sure to get the camera out. I hope your weekend is golden.

Beautiful.

I was going to send my elder son for a trip around the lawn on the mower this weekend, but we got 7 inches of rain on Thursday and Friday. The clay on the former prairie which we call, "the lawn," has yet to dry out.

Further, I'll probably have the Corps of Engineers on my butt for screwing with a "wetland."

Cheers.

Hi R - We're actually expecting SNOW just at the moment... I'm not quite ready for it. "Wetland" has a little more appeal at the moment for me than does "ice rink."

Proj - You are going on my payroll and into my will. I regretted that last leaf picture a bit. I mean cleee-shay!

Lovely photos. The scenery looks marvellous and I'm very envious as I gaze out at a grey London day.

I can't help but want to quote the film Anchorman, "Stay classy San Diego". Yes, this is one classy blog. So what did Frost say about winter? Snow is on it's way. Nothing golden about that!

PS Love the photo of your dog.
