I have been collecting illustrated books from the 10's, 20's, and 30's, and displaying them on Flickr as katinthecupboard. I would LOVE to show "The bag of buns was recieved with joy" with this website reference http://lasthouse.blogspot.com/2008/03/in-rolls-march.html
as well as a pic from the earlier blog explaining about Gladys Peto.
Do I have your permission? Thanks for sharing this wonderful author and illustrator.

Kathie McMillan
katinthecupboardAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-34565333223306074362008-12-02T19:48:00.000-05:002008-12-02T19:48:00.000-05:00Hey Juliet -Nice to see you around here. I am not very good at decluttering myself but the prices on the Peto stuff (I watch it too) have become a real disincentive.Kim Velkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06729808121762572706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-34275565282760738142008-12-01T17:36:00.000-05:002008-12-01T17:36:00.000-05:00Hi Kim - I've had so much catching up to do in the...Hi Kim - I've had so much catching up to do in the blogosphere (I've been a bit out of blogcirculation recently for various reasons). How lovely to see another Peto post here - thank you. I keep seeing Peto books on ebay and 'watching' them and then thinking, no, you're supposed to be DE-junking, my girl, NOT acquiring more stuff you've no houseroom for. So I don't bid and I let them go . . .Juliethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18055924620237477722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-42001207902585692592008-11-12T19:45:00.000-05:002008-11-12T19:45:00.000-05:00Phew. Beardsley died when she was 8 years old, but his work obviously influenced her - the obit excerpted above mentioned that influence specifically.

I remember reading somewhere that she was offended once when someone wrote that she had studied with Beardsley, because that would have had to add about 15 years to her age.

Her drawings didn't cause a scandal either (for children and paying advertisers mostly so not much room for drawing unnatural acts and what have you). But if you will click on that bookplate image at the top of this post and look carefully at the group of circles behind the girl's head I believe you may see a little bad Beardsley-style joke...Kim Velkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06729808121762572706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-59132141566865970532008-11-12T18:25:00.000-05:002008-11-12T18:25:00.000-05:00She sounds fascinating, I'd love to read the Egypt...She sounds fascinating, I'd love to read the Egypt book. Do you think there's an Aubrey beardsley influence in her illustration?Lulu LaBonnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05546286547273386382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-76962404893693525802008-11-12T14:31:00.000-05:002008-11-12T14:31:00.000-05:00What beautiful illustrationsWhat beautiful illustrationsuphilldowndalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15426833972060254592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10709507.post-85157371873423009582008-11-12T09:14:00.000-05:002008-11-12T09:14:00.000-05:00Thanks for acquainting me with her.
