I wore a necklace yesterday, a wee peace sign on a leather strap.
Here it is being modeled by the Understudy.
I bought it for her for Halloween (she was a '60s hippy). While trick-or-treating, One of the locals (Cletus Spuckler's brother, I think) mistook her for Hannah Montana, which appropriately filled her with horror. I liked the necklace, though, and the little round sunglasses she also sported. The sunglasses are missing and would have been too small for me and inappropriate for work but I figured I could get away with the necklace.
I also took a Journey to the Center of the Closet and Bottom of the Sock Drawer yesterday morning and emerged with a skirt and stockings. (Skirt, long and black, stockings black). I wore them to work, with the necklace. My shirt was red, made of some unnatural fiber, and with false sweater flaps, think "substitute teacher." But it was red. Move over Coco!
A few weeks ago, I hope you are holding onto something sturdy, I also bought a lipstick. I think it is the first lipstick I have bought in about 4 years. I would have worn the lipstick today but the lid came off in my ugly hemp shoulder-bag a few weeks ago and then the whole twist-to-elevate mechanism stopped twisting and elevating.
The significance of all this, in case you have begun to wonder, is that you all are witnessing here some glimmering of a return, much further down the road from where I exited, to an Effort Being Made… Shackleton just turned eight: long gone are the nights of listening for crying, of feedings, and fevers accompanied by barf, amoxicillin in eyedroppers, and bleary-eyed changing of crib sheets.
I have a part time job. I really have no excuse. I may update you periodically.
Note to self: buy another lipstick, drink lots of water, consider some shoes that would not also be suitable for Frankenstein's Monster.
In keeping with our fashion theme today, here is a happy little internet surfing discovery. I was checking the searches that landed people on my blog and "Cecil Beaton Hat Box" brought some poor U.K. googler to my blog and to this one. I loved the name, "The Swelle Life." and all the high fashion on display there (Scary! Bold!). I sent a little comment to Denise. The Swelle Life's creator, and asked to add her blog to my Blog Roll. I was a little worried she wouldn't want to be seen at the Last House, but she responded very kindly and so here we have "une note de rouge" in the blog roll for your consideration. ( Don't you agree that when they hand out awards for the most glamorous blog in western Orleans County Vermont, I will be right in there with a chance now?)
Denise (and anybody else), tell the truth, is my peace sign fabulous or ridiculous? I can take it. We are not 16 anymore, are we?

A makeover is always great for the spirits.
I saw this article and thought of you

I make it a habit never to comment on a woman's fashion choices, beyond a noncommittal grunt or two. If that course of action is impossible, I try to determine how the woman feels about it and then proceed to agree heartily with her opinion.
Life is so much easier that way.
Cheers.
Kim, I didn't expect to find this as I neared the end of your latest post! What a treat, thank you! I will always accept praise as without a regular propping up of the ego it starts to slouch a bit.
As for the necklace, I think anything that means something to you will work. Do you feel that it's 'you'? If so, wear it and be happy! If not, keep the peace pendant and make your own charm bracelet, and keep the leather cord around for when you find something that lifts your spirits.
I look forward to following your style evolution!
Lulu - Thanks for thinking of me and for the link. It is my next stop.
R - You are steering exactly the right course. I wondered what you might have to say about this. Sage, as usual.
Denie - A charm bracelet! Brilliant. I need to get one going. Thanks for stopping back.
